Strengthen Your Faith Muscle

I have a love-hate relationship with working out. I hate the working out part, but I love the results it gets me, especially the defined and stronger muscles. What I have learned over the years, though, is working out has to be a part of my daily practice if I am going to maintain my strength and my muscles. As soon as I stop working out, my muscles quickly weaken. The same is true for our spiritual faith. Faith is a muscle that needs to be exercised daily and you cannot take a leap of faith to pursue your giant dream without the spirituality part.

That is exactly why to awaken and strengthen your faith muscle – that centered core of yourself – is the second part of the RADICAL model I have created that guide folks as they pursue their dreams.

Reflection: On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being extremely weak to 10 being rock solid faith, how strong is your faith muscle today?

For many years, my faith muscle was at best a 3 or 4. I would utilize it in times of crisis, but in non-crisis times I would lean on my own wisdom. When I fully leapt into my business in 2015, I realized I needed to do things differently if I wanted to get different results. I began a daily practice of building my spiritual muscle.

For me, this meant getting up early to spend time in prayer, to be still and meditate and to ground myself in my God’s word. Once I completed my morning routine, I found that I could then utilize my faith muscle in my business throughout the day. Now, for you to awaken and strengthen your faith muscle it might look different.

I have a friend who loves hot yoga and for her that is how she strengthens and tones her muscles. I, on the other hand detest hot yoga. I don’t mind sweating, but I don’t like to have waterfalls pouring off of me as I try to shape my body into positions that feel more like torture than sweet release.

I share this because I have found that people’s faith practices can be as varied as our workout practices. The worst thing you can do is try to copy someone else. Do what feels right to you. Try some new practices, try it at different times of the day, but just try and then see what works for you.

Once you begin to strengthen your faith muscle you can then begin to utilize it to guide you as you pursue your dream. This practice simply comes down to a three part formula:

Ask + Await + Act

When you are making decisions for your dream, both big and small, take time to tune into your Spirit and ask what it would like to create or do.

Then expectantly await to get a nudge or inclination for how you are to proceed. This is the part most people forget. We ask the question and then immediately act without actually waiting to be guided to act. Be still and wait on guidance.

Finally, act on what you are being guided to. It might not make sense, but take action anyway. Be willing to trust that where you are being guided is right where you need to be.

Today wake up, work out and let your inner spirituality lead the way to your soul driven dream!
